Abu Dhabi – exhaust rattle only when cold, heat shield or something else?

My 2015 435i makes this horrible tinny rattle for the first few minutes after a cold start, then it completely goes away once the car warms up. I've had two different garages look at it and neither could find the source. One said it might be a loose heat shield, another said it could be an internal baffle in the muffler. I'm tired of paying diagnostic fees without a fix. A coworker who had a similar issue on his M235i suggested I take it to a specialist that does Elite Exhaust System Abu Dhabi and knows how to pinpoint rattles using a stethoscope or even a camera. Has anyone here dealt with an intermittent exhaust rattle that turned out to be something simple? I'm worried about spending money on a new exhaust only to find out it was a bracket all along. Also curious if they can weld a heat shield without removing the whole system. Just want the noise gone before I sell the car. Any experienced exhaust shop recommendations around Mussafah?

Cold only rattle that disappears completely after warmup is almost always a heat shield rather than an internal muffler baffle. Metal heat shields expand with temperature and the rattle stops when they settle against their mounting points, while an internal baffle failure usually produces noise throughout the drive.

Two garages missing a heat shield rattle is frustrating but understandable since the noise only occurs during a cold start that shops rarely replicate properly. A technician who actually starts the car cold first thing in the morning before touching anything will find it much faster.

Welding a loose heat shield without removing the whole system is absolutely possible and is typically a quick job for any exhaust specialist with the right equipment. That repair costs a fraction of what replacing the exhaust would, which is exactly why confirming the source first matters so much.

Stethoscope diagnosis during an actual cold start is the correct approach for this fault. Poking around under a warm car after the rattle has already stopped is why those two previous diagnostic fees produced nothing useful.

Wanting the noise gone before selling is a completely legitimate motivation and a heat shield weld or bracket tighten is the kind of quick inexpensive fix that removes a question mark for any buyer without requiring a full exhaust replacement.
