Low Tongue Posture Symptoms: Signs, Causes, and Why It Matters

Low tongue posture occurs when the tongue rests on the floor of the mouth instead of the roof. Common symptoms include chronic mouth breathing, dry mouth, snoring, speech difficulties, frequent swallowing, jaw tension, and poor lip seal. Some individuals may experience facial muscle fatigue, forward head posture, dental crowding, or changes in bite alignment over time. Low tongue posture can also contribute to disrupted sleep and reduced nasal breathing efficiency. Causes may include tongue-tie, nasal congestion, enlarged tonsils, allergies, or habitual mouth breathing. Early assessment and myofunctional therapy can help improve oral function and breathing patterns.
